MA in Translation / MA in Conference Interpretation with translation
The 2008-9 student prospectus for the MA in Translation and the MA in Conference Interpretation with Translation can be obtained for $50 NT, either
(i) by mail from the following address (write ‘Prospectus’ on the envelope), enclosing a post office cheque payable to Fu Jen University and a self-addressed envelope large enough to contain B4 format documents stamped with postage to the value of $17NT:

Admission requirements and procedure
ROC nationals will find details of admission requirements and procedures in the 2008-9 student prospectus or at http://www.adm.fju.edu.tw.
Five additional places are reserved for foreign nationals, who are subject to the same conditions of admission (qualification and entrance examinations) but different procedures and deadlines:
Application procedure for non-ROC nationals
Non-ROC nationals wishing to apply for admission to the Institute should collect a Foreign Student Application Form from the Academic Affairs Division of the University not later than one week before the deadline for registration (i.e. by April 22nd, 2008. For further details, please see ‘Application procedures for foreign students at Fu Jen University ’ at http://www.adm.fju.edu.tw/rule.htm.

GITIS currently accepts students for its main MA programs in Translation and Conference Interpretation with either of two language combinations: Chinese-English (or English-Chinese) and Chinese-Japanese (or Japanese-Chinese); and for its on-the-job MA in Translation, with Chinese-English or English-Chinese.Students must state their language combination (see below) on the ‘Personal Information Form’and in on-line registration. Working languages and combinations are explained below.
‘A’ language: The native language or main language of education, in which the candidate must have a thorough command of vocabulary and style and be comfortable in all registers.
‘B’ language: an acquired language in which the candidate has attained near-native reading and/or listening comprehension* and the ability to express ideas clearly and fluently orally and/or in writing.*
The language combination must include Chinese as the A or B language. GITIS students are trained to work between their A and B languages in both directions.
*depending on whether he/she is applying to do an MA in Translation or Conference Interpretation with Translation.

In rare cases, students may provisionally be admitted as pure bilinguals (two A languages), or in exceptional cases, with all three of the Institute’s current languages*.
* In this case either English or Japanese may be offered as a C (passive or source) language,requiring complete understanding but not active proficiency. However, availability of this combination will depend on teaching resources available in a particular year.Candidates wishing to offer three languages are requested to contact the Institute before registration.
